San Diego’s public transportation system works to provide accommodations for all patrons. This includes discounted fairs for eligible patrons, wheelchair access and more.


Wheelchair Access for Trolley

All Trolleys have lift mechanisms or ramps to assist customers in wheelchairs or with other mobility impairments to board. The international symbol of accessibility is located on the platforms of each Trolley station to let you know where the lift will be when the Trolley stops.

Bus and Trolley Fares for Disabled Passengers

Senior citizens (60+), disabled individuals and Medicare recipients are eligible for a reduced fare on fixed–route buses and Trolleys.

People eligible for discounted fares and Compass Card passes must show proper identification to purchase discounted fares on buses, and at the MTS Transit Store, Albertsons, and other participating outlets.

Disabled Person Parking Placard

You may qualify for a DP placard or DP license plates if you have impaired mobility due to having lost use of one or more lower extremities, or both hands, or have a diagnosed disease that substantially impairs or interferes with mobility, or one who is severely disabled to be unable to move without the aid of an assistive device. You may also qualify if you have specific, documented visual problems, including lower-vision or partial-sightedness.
